Biography
Donna
Mansell is a Registered Nurse and Midwife and the principle for BirthSkills in
South Australia
.
After completing a Bachelor of Nursing from the
University
of
South Australia
in 2000, Donna commenced working as a Registered Nurse at the
Queen
Elizabeth
Hospital
in Medical and Surgical Nursing.
In 2002, Donna undertook two years of further study, graduating from the
University
of
South Australia
with a Bachelor of Midwifery.
Since 2004 Donna has been working as a Registered Midwife at the Women’s
and Children’s Hospital. Since
2005 she has worked within the Midwifery Group Practice. Donna works
independently caring for around 40 women a year as the primary midwife and
backup to a further 40. She manages
both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies, birthing women in the Birthing Centre
and the Labour Ward.
As part of the Midwifery Group Practice she provides antenatal care and
postnatal support to mother and child for up to two months.
Donna is an active member of the
Australian
College
of Midwives and is a member of the Education Committee (since 2006). Donna is
responsible for the educational programs of the South Australian branch.
Donna is a
qualified BirthSkills Practitioner and firmly believes that education can
improve women’s birthing experiences. Donna
explains, “I love empowering women through the BirthSkills program.
As a midwife I constantly see how a positive, relaxed and well-informed
mind can empower women to birth their babies naturally and with calmness.
Donna is the mother of one beautiful little boy, Oliver,
born in December 2007. She used the BirthSkills program throughout her pregnancy
and labour and believes, “it empowered me to give birth naturally, drug-free
and with confidence.”
