Donna Mansell  -  Biography

Donna Mansell is a Registered Nurse and Midwife and the principle for BirthSkills in South Australia .

After completing a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of South Australia in 2000, Donna commenced working as a Registered Nurse at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Medical and Surgical Nursing.

In 2002, Donna undertook two years of further study, graduating from the University of South Australia with a Bachelor of Midwifery.

Since 2004 Donna has been working as a Registered Midwife at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.  Since 2005 she has worked within the Midwifery Group Practice. Donna works independently caring for around 40 women a year as the primary midwife and backup to a further 40.  She manages both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies, birthing women in the Birthing Centre and the Labour Ward.

As part of the Midwifery Group Practice she provides antenatal care and postnatal support to mother and child for up to two months.

Donna is an active member of the Australian College of Midwives and is a member of the Education Committee (since 2006). Donna is responsible for the educational programs of the South Australian branch.

Donna is a qualified BirthSkills Practitioner and firmly believes that education can improve women’s birthing experiences.  Donna explains, “I love empowering women through the BirthSkills program.  As a midwife I constantly see how a positive, relaxed and well-informed mind can empower women to birth their babies naturally and with calmness.

Donna is the mother of one beautiful little boy, Oliver, born in December 2007. She used the BirthSkills program throughout her pregnancy and labour and believes, “it empowered me to give birth naturally, drug-free and with confidence.”
