The post-natal period is full of changes and surprises - some which are just amazing and wonderful- like finding out how much love you are truly capable of - and others are just plain unpleasant - like sleeplessness despite being ridiculously tired and sleep deprived.

The BirthSkills post-natal care pack is designed to help you get the most out of the positive aspects of motherhood and manage and eventually eliminate the less positive aspects. The pack and a follow-up session is included in most of the full program options but is also available to women who have not participated in the ante-natal BirthSkills programs.

Resources available to you through BirthSkills include:

The Post-Natal Care Pack - a brief manual outlining some relaxation techniques, normal post-natal feelings and concerns, tips for how to care for yourself naturally and information about post-natal depression. order form

A Parent's Relaxation CD (2 tracks included in pack above - included in the care pack sent out to BirthSkills Mums). order form

Parent's Social Support Group - a mother's group made up of mums who have used the BirthSkills program for the birth of their babies. The group meets regularly but informally.

Post-Natal Session/s with Dr Shari Read (this can include counselling and/or therapy for postnatal depression, anxiety or other unwanted thoughts, feelings or experiences).

Post-Natal Counselling or Therapy

Shari specialises in psychology for pregnancy and parenting, particularly in the areas of antenatal depression, postnatal depression and parenting stress or anxiety.

The goal of counselling is to help you release negative thoughts and behaviours and focus on feeling good about yourself, as well as develop confidence and a greater awareness of your behaviour. In many ways it is about learning to take control in your life, and build strategies for dealing with unpleasantness now and in the future.

Therapy can be beneficial in instances of:

anxiety;

depression;

post-natal stress;

negative life events; and

weight management.

Private, discrete and with someone who understands.
